THIS IS AWESOME!
Songjiang Shimao Hotel.
This hotel will be China’s first underground five-star hotel, located in a 100 meter deep pit near Sheshan Hill, in Shanghai’s Songjiang District near the base of Tianmashan Mountain.
It is developed by a Shanghai Shimao Property GRoup and
InterContinental Hotels group, the complex named “InterContinental
Shimao Shanghai Wonderland”. More info about the break.Once completed, the luxury resort will be approximately 700 meters lower than the top floor of the world’s-highest-hotel-to-be, the Shanghai Tower J Hotel in Shanghai Tower. There’ll be 16 floors attached to the wall of the pit and 3 floors above sea-level. The lowest 20 meters are filled with stagnant rainwater, which the hotel will retain. It incorporates conference facilities for up to 1,000 people, such as a banqueting centre, underwater restaurants, cafés, sports facilities, spa rooms and so forth. A senior of Shimao disclosed a 60-meter glass curtain will be built to mimic a waterfall next to the resort’s main structure. OMG, how amazing would that be! The building has around 380 rooms and it’s expected to cost around 2,000 yuan (US$320) per night, and that’s about twice the price of any nearby five-star hotels in Shanghai.
The pit has served as a quarry since 1950s, and it has been abandoned
since the year 2000. Subsequently, the surrounding land was purchased by
Shimao in order to build a large-scale theme park “Shimao Shanghai
Wonderland”. The underground hotel will be part of the theme-park
complex. Hotel planners are considering to utilise its surrounding areas
as well, such as hosting activities such as rock climbing and bungee
jumping. The company has invested a total of 3.5 billion yuan (US$555
million) for this project. This stunning concept is generated by a
British engineering firm Atkins. It’s scheduled to open in the late 2014
to early 2015. By that time, Shanghai’s Disneyland will be there as well. So there’ll be three major theme parks in Shanghai — World Joyland, Shanghai’s Disneyland and Shimao Shanghai Wonderland.
