Biarpun mandi malam dengan air hangat mempunyai banyak manfaat tapi ahli tidak menganjurkan untuk sering mandi larut malam. Setidaknya mandi malam hari dianjurkan hanya dilakukan 2 kali dalam seminggu. Selain itu disarankan untuk tidak mandi 1 jam sebelum atau setelah makan. Hal tersebut bisa menimbulkan efek buruk bagi kesehatan.

Sebagai pemimpin, Buddha tidak membuat orang-orang tergantung kepada-Nya. Kepemimpinan yang ditunjukkan Buddha adalah bagaimana membuat orang...
yang dipimpin meningkatkan kualitas dirinya. Berlindung kepada Buddha pun tak lain dari menjadikan Buddha sebagai pembawa inspirasi, penuntun hidup, bahkan tujuan hidup.

Dengan menghormati Buddha dan nilai-nilai kebuddhaan, umat mendapat dorongan untuk mengembangkan nilai-nilai luhur, mengambil cinta kasih dan kebijaksanaan Buddha sebagai teladan, dan bekerja keras untuk menjadi sama seperti Buddha. Disadari atau tidak, tiap manusia dapat menjadi Buddha. Manusia memiliki hakikat Buddha atau benih Buddha. Dalai Lama melihatnya sebagai Buddha Kecil, istilah yang dipopulerkan Bernardo Bertolucci melalui filmnya, Little Buddha.

Kebanyakan orang ingin menaklukkan orang lain, Buddha mengajarkan agar kita menaklukkan diri sendiri. Kebanyakan orang mengejar jabatan dan kekayaan. Yang berpeluang dan berjuang, atau bermimpi, semua ingin menjadi penguasa.

Tidak demikian dengan Buddha. Setelah menjadi Buddha, Dia mudah menduduki takhta dan menggunakan kekuasaan pemerintahan untuk menyiarkan agama. Tetapi itu tidak dilakukan. Menurut Buddha, ada yang lebih baik dari kekuasaan di Bumi, lebih baik daripada memerintah seluruh jagat, yaitu kemuliaan memenangi tingkat kesucian.

Pandangan ini tidak menunjukkan Buddha menyangkal perlunya kekuasaan pemerintahan. Dia amat dihormati raja-raja dari berbagai negara dan mengajarkan bagaimana memimpin negara dengan baik, cinta damai, dan menempatkan kesucian di atas kekuasaan dan kekayaan.

Menurut Buddha, pemimpin harus memenuhi sepuluh kewajiban. Etika kekuasaan menyentuh semua kewajiban ini.

Kewajiban pertama mengenai kemurahhatian. Dalam hidup kenegaraan, penguasa bertanggung jawab memelihara dan meningkatkan kesejahteraan rakyat dengan kemampuan menjamin keselamatan ekonomi negara.

Kedua, pemimpin harus memiliki moral yang baik sehingga pantas dijadikan teladan dan dijunjung.

Ketiga, sedia berkorban dengan mengutamakan kepentingan umum daripada kepentingan pribadi.

Keempat, integritas atau tulus, jujur, dapat dipercaya, dan mewujudkan pemerintahan yang bersih.

Kelima hingga kesembilan adalah kebaikan hati tanpa mengabaikan tanggung jawab dan keadilan, hidup sederhana, bebas dari amarah, tanpa kekerasan, dan sabar.

Kesepuluh, tidak boleh bertentangan dengan kebenaran atau melawan kehendak rakyat. Terpenuhinya hal-hal ini akan membuat penguasa berwibawa dan kuat posisinya dalam kehidupan berbangsa yang demokratis.

Oleh karena itu, untuk memilih seorang pemimpin, latar belakang kehidupan pribadi dan bagaimana moral orang yang dicalonkan sepatutnya disorot secara terbuka.

Buddha mengingatkan, ada empat penyebab kemerosotan, yang dalam konteks kenegaraan diterjemahkan oleh Aung San Suu Kyi sebagai berikut: Ada yang hilang, yaitu hak-hak demokratis yang diambil oleh kediktatoran militer, dan berbagai usaha belum cukup untuk mendapatkannya kembali. Ada yang rusak, yaitu nilai-nilai moral dan politik yang dibiarkan memburuk. Ada pemborosan karena perekonomian diurus secara ceroboh. Yang terakhir menyangkut moral pemimpin. Krisis politik terjadi saat negara dikuasai orang-orang yang tidak memiliki integritas dan kebijaksanaan. Salah memilih pemimpin akan membuat kita semakin terperosok dalam kemerosotan.

Ketika kita menginginkan reformasi terus bergulir melalui pemilu dan pemilihan presiden, momentum merayakan Waisak sepantasnya digunakan untuk mengingatkan bahwa ada yang lebih baik dari kekuasaan dan kekayaan, yaitu kesucian. Dan, tidak ada kesucian di luar kebenaran.

Jika seseorang berbicara dan berbuat dengan pikiran suci, kebahagiaan akan mengikutinya, seperti bayang-bayang yang tak pernah meninggalkan dirinya.

Cinta Kasih dan Kasih Sayang seorang Buddha tidak terbatas oleh waktu dan selalu abadi, karena telah ada dan memancar sejak manusia pertama kalinya terlahir dalam lingkaran hidup roda samsara yang disebabkan oleh ketidaktahuan atau kebodohan batinnya. Jalan untuk mencapai Kebuddhaan ialah dengan melenyapkan ketidaktahuan atau kebodohan batin yang dimiliki oleh manusia. Pada waktu Pangeran Siddharta meninggalkan kehidupan duniawi, ia telah mengikrarkan Empat Prasetya yang berdasarkan Cinta Kasih dan Kasih Sayang yang tidak terbatas: Berusaha menolong semua makhluk. Menolak semua keinginan nafsu keduniawian. Mempelajari, menghayati dan mengamalkan Dharma. Berusaha mencapai Pencerahan Sempurna.

 RINGKASAN:

Mau menerima nasihat atau kritik dari orang lain. Nasehat tersebut sangat berarti bagi pertapa Gautama yang akhirnya memutuskan untuk menghentikan tapanya.

Kemauan yang keras membaja. “Meskipun darahku mengering, dagingku membusuk, tulang belulang jatuh berserakan , tetapi aku tidak akan meninggalkan tempat ini sampai aku mencapai Pencerahan Sempurna.” (saat digoda setan dan lelah bersemedi).

Empowering bawahan. Sang Buddha memberi pelajaran tentang dharma kepada lima pertapa Buddha berkelana menyebarkan Dharma selama 45th lamanya kepada umat manusia dengan penuh cinta kasih dan kasih sayang, hingga akhirnya akan wafat, Sang Buddha dalam keadaan sakit terbaring memberikan khotbahDharma terakhir kepada siswa-siswa-Nya, mengandung arti yang sangat dalam bagi siswa-siswa-Nya karena mengandung prinsip-prinsip beragama, seperti Percaya pada diri sendiri dalam mengembangkan Ajaran Sang Buddha; Jadikanlah Ajaran Sang Buddha (Dharma) sebagai pencerahan hidup; Segala sesuatu tidak ada yang kekal abadi; Tujuan dari Ajaran Sang Buddha (Dharma) ialah untuk mengendalikan pikiran; Pikiran dapat menjadikan seseorang menjadi Buddha, namun pikiran dapat pula menjadikan seseorang menjadi binatang; Hendaknya saling menghormati satu dengan yang lain dan dapat menghindarkan diri dari segala macam perselisihan; Bilamana melalaikan Ajaran Sang Buddha, dapat berarti belum pernah berjumpa dengan Sang Buddha. Mara (setan) dan keinginan nafsu duniawi senantiasa mencari kesempatan untuk menipu umat manusia; Kematian hanyalah musnahnya badan jasmani; Buddha yang sejati bukan badan jasmani manusia, tetapi Pencerahan Sempurna; Kebijaksanaan Sempurna yang lahir dari Pencerahan Sempurna akan hidup selamanya di dalam Kebenaran; Hanya mereka yang mengerti, yang menghayati dan mengamalkan Dharma yang akan melihat Sang Buddha; Ajaran yang diberikan oleh Sang Buddha tidak ada yang dirahasiakan, ditutup-tutupi ataupun diselubungi.

Memotivasi bawahan. Sang Buddha bersabda, “Dengarkan baik baik, wahai para bhikkhu, Aku sampaikan padamu: Akan membusuklah semua benda benda yang terbentuk, berjuanglah dengan penuh kesadaran!”

Tunjukkan loyalitas pada bawahan. Seorang Buddha memiliki sifat Cinta Kasih (maitri atau metta) dan Kasih Sayang (karuna) yang diwujudkan oleh sabda Buddha Gautama, “Penderitaanmu adalah penderitaanku, dan kegembiraanmu adalah kegembiraanku.” Manusia adalah pancaran dari semangat Cinta Kasih dan Kasih Sayang yang dapat menuntunnya kepada Pencerahan Sempurna.

Dan Ini Pun Akan Berlalu

 Seorang petani kaya mati dan meninggalkan kedua putranya.
Sepeninggal ayahnya, kedua putra ini hidup bersama dalam satu rumah. Sampai suatu hari mereka bertengkar dan memutuskan untuk berpisah dan membagi dua harta warisan ayahnya. Setelah harta terbagi, masih tertinggal satu kotak yang selama ini disembunyikan oleh ayah mereka.

 Mereka membuka kotak itu dan menemukan dua buah cincin di alamnya, yang satu terbuat dari emas bertahtakan berlian dan yang satu terbuat dari perunggu murah. Melihat cincin berlian itu, timbullah keserakahan sang kakak, dia menjelaskan, “Kurasa cincin ini bukan milik ayah, namun warisan turun-temurun dari nenek moyang kita. Oleh karena itu, kita harus menjaganya untuk anak-cucu kita. Sebagai saudara tua, aku akan menyimpan yang emas dan kamu simpan yang perunggu.”

Sang adik tersenyum dan berkata, “Baiklah, ambil saja yang emas, aku ambil yang perunggu.”
Keduanya mengenakan cincin tersebut di jari masing-masing dan berpisah.

Sang adik merenung, “Tidak aneh kalau ayah menyimpan cincin berlian yang mahal itu, tetapi kenapa ayah menyimpan cincin perunggu murahan ini?” Dia mencermati cincinnya dan menemukan sebuah kalimat terukir di cincin itu: INI PUN AKAN BERLALU. “Oh, rupanya ini mantra ayah…,” gumamnya sembari kembali mengenakan cincin tersebut.

Kakak-beradik tersebut mengalami jatuh-bangunnya kehidupan. Ketika panen berhasil, sang kakak berpesta-pora, bermabuk-mabukan, lupa daratan. Ketika panen gagal, dia menderita tekanan batin, tekanan darah tinggi, hutang sana-sini. Demikian terjadi dari waktu ke waktu, sampai akhirnya dia kehilangan keseimbangan batinnya, sulit tidur, dan mulai memakai obat-obatan penenang. Akhirnya dia terpaksa menjual cincin berliannya untuk membeli obat-obatan yang membuatnya kecanduan.

Sementara itu, ketika panen berhasil sang adik mensyukurinya, tetapi dia teringatkan oleh cincinnya: INI PUN AKAN BERLALU. Jadi dia pun tidak menjadi sombong dan lupa daratan. Ketika panen gagal, dia juga ingat bahwa : INI PUN AKAN BERLALU, jadi ia pun tidak larut dalam kesedihan.

Hidupnya tetap saja naik-turun, kadang berhasil, kadang gagal dalam segala hal, namun dia tahu bahwa tiada yang kekal adanya. Semua yang datang, hanya akan berlalu. Dia tidak pernah kehilangan keseimbangan batinnya, dia hidup tenteram, hidup seimbang, hidup bahagia.
